                             COMMUNITY HERITAGE BOOK 2016

Last year, 2015, the Schoolhouse Museum produced a book based on our Heritage Day and Open House weekend.  We attempted to get pictures of all our visitors and activities.  The book is located in the library.  Ask to see it.

This year, we are expanding the book.  We would like to get a snapshot of an extended area around Highland Grove, which would include an area from Wilberforce to Cardiff.  Most of the photos and activities will be taken during August and September 2016.  The book will be sent out at the end of September.  Our focus will show people a 100 years from now the community, property, business, families, volunteer groups, activities, etc.

Our museum staff is asking for people to forward photos via email to johnjamieson11@hotmail.com or joburr50@hotmail.com.  The photos will be placed in an Imac book.  One book will be made for our museum, but others will be made on request.

This book is wide open!  WE need people to participate.

Activities at the Museum

All programs at the museum in Highland Grove are run by volunteers.  All revenue collected pay for materials in the workshops with some funds retained by the museum.

1. Coffee mugs.  Photographs are placed on coffee mugs for $10 per cup.  Images can be emailed or the photos can be scanned at the museum.  Text added at no extra cost.  Several images can be placed on the same cup.

2. Sterling silver rings.  Starting with jewellers wax, the participant forms a ring of their design.  Using lost wax casting, the ring is made away from the museum.  The ring is finished with sandpapers and polished to a high gloss.  Cost is $10 for course and $1 per gram of silver.  Expect to pay about $17 for a total cost.  There is no cost for students.

3. Wet felting.  Commercial wool is used to make various items in felt: toques, slippers, mitts, etc.  Cost is $5 per course plus cost of wool.  Expect a cost of about $13 per item depending on size.

4. iPhoto books.  The staff will assist making a hard covered book.  Either we will show you how to use your Mac computer to make the book, or we use the museum Mac to place the photos and send it away to the publisher.  The delivery time is usually 4 days.  Twenty two pages costs about $48 and the museum adds a 20% to the cost.

5. Archaeological artifact casting.  Reproductions are made of Inuit prehistoric artifacts.  This workshop will interest collectors and students interested in pursuing museum studies.

Usual time for workshops is Tuesday 10 am to 1 pm and Saturday 10 am to 1 pm, but additional time can be  set up if a small group wants a workshop.

To participate in any courses, email: johnjamieson11@hotmail.com
